BACKSTORY of Mateo

- Mateo, age 63, grew up in Houston Texas on January 3rd, 1955 with his mom and dad–Robert and Nancy. 

- He has brown eyes and white hair. He says he is 6ft 1in, but he really is 5ft 10in. He is 189 pounds. 

- His traits are he's lazy, an alcoholic, a pot head, he's unreliable, and he may be mentally insane. 

- His favorite activities include watering his "ZEN GARDEN", go carting, and playing with his blowtorch.

- He started using drugs at the age of 14 because his dad was a drug addict. He was introduced to drugs at a very young age and they have always been a part of his life. 

- Having Mateo being portrayed as an older and messy man makes the reader feel like he is an actual drug dealer - because that's how they are portrayed in other books and movies. 

- most books and movies show the character as unreliable, messy, disorganized, and lazy. This shows his disconnect with the outside world and how they can not hold down a job.
